Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Solid Rock Community School unique?

At Solid Rock Community School, education is more than academics—it’s about shaping compassionate, capable, and empowered individuals. We are the only school in the world that fully integrates Compassionate Humane Education (CHE) into every subject, operates an off-site animal sanctuary as a living classroom, and provides a seed-to-table garden and exclusive plant-based kitchen as part of our health, wellness, and sustainability initiative. Our unique approach blends holistic learning, hands-on experiences, and targeted support to create an environment where students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Compassionate Humane Education (CHE)

CHE is woven into our curriculum, teaching students to think critically, ethically, and empathetically. By integrating compassion, ethics, and social responsibility into learning, we encourage students to explore the interconnections between people, animals, and the environment. Through discussion-based learning, real-world applications, and hands-on projects, students develop a moral compass and a deep understanding of the impact of their choices and the importance of kindness, inclusion, and ethical decision-making.

Holistic Learning

We believe that education should nurture the whole child—academically, emotionally, socially, and ethically. With smaller class sizes, multi-modal teaching methods, and targeted support, we ensure that every student receives personalized attention to reach their fullest potential. Whether a student is excelling in advanced coursework, overcoming learning challenges, or exploring specialized interests, Solid Rock provides the flexibility and structure needed for a meaningful and individualized learning journey.

Personalized Learning Pathways

Solid Rock recognizes that every student’s learning path is different. With a strong focus on targeted support, we provide an adaptable learning environment where students can move at their own pace, receive additional assistance when needed, or take on advanced coursework that challenges them. By fostering confidence, independence, and a love for learning, we empower students to take ownership of their education and reach their full potential.

Sanctuary at Solid Rock

At Solid Rock Community School, learning extends beyond the classroom walls and into the heart of our off-site animal sanctuary, where students gain hands-on experience caring for animals in need. The Sanctuary at Solid Rock provides a forever home for rescued animals—many of whom have been saved from neglect, abandonment, or other difficult circumstances.

Through daily interaction with the sanctuary residents, students develop empathy, responsibility, and a deeper understanding of the human-animal connection. The sanctuary serves as a living classroom, where lessons in science, ethics, sustainability, and animal welfare come to life. Whether helping with feeding routines, habitat maintenance, or simply spending time with the animals, students gain real-world skills that foster compassion, leadership, and a sense of stewardship toward all living beings.

By providing a safe and loving environment for animals in need, the Sanctuary at Solid Rock teaches students the power of kindness, advocacy, and making a difference—lessons that stay with them long after they leave the classroom.

Health and Wellness

Solid Rock Community School is one of only two schools in the U.S. that operates an entirely plant-based kitchen, aligning with our values of compassion, health, and sustainability. Students have access to a variety of physical activities, including:

  • Recreational sports for skill-building and fitness
  • Competitive sports for teamwork and athletic growth
  • Esports for cognitive and strategic development
  • Outdoor activities that encourage movement and a connection with nature

Through a focus on health, fitness, and healthy food choices, we help students develop lifelong habits that support physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

Compassionate Humane Education (CHE)

At the heart of our philosophy is Compassionate Humane Education (CHE), which integrates:

  • Individualized Learning: With small class sizes and multimodal teaching methods, we tailor our education to meet the needs of each student, ensuring they thrive academically and personally.

  • Safe and Supportive Environment: We foster a culture of kindness, inclusion, and respect where every student feels valued. Your child will grow in a nurturing atmosphere that celebrates diversity and encourages self-expression.

Why should I pay for a private school when public school is free?

Public schools often can’t provide the same level of individualized attention. At Solid Rock, your child benefits from smaller class sizes, dedicated teachers, and personalized learning paths designed to help every student succeed. Here, your child isn’t just a number—they are part of a community where their unique strengths and needs are our priority.

Why is private school tuition so expensive?

The cost reflects the resources, programs, and quality staff we provide to ensure the best education for your child. Unlike public schools, we’re not subsidized by tax dollars—we’re funded entirely by tuition. Public schools also don’t offer the same individualized attention, unique curriculum, or specialized programs that we do. Here, your child isn’t just a number. Our smaller classes and specialized programs ensure every student gets the attention and resources they need to excel. Think of tuition as an investment in a customized, values-driven education that meets your child’s unique needs and prepares them for the future.

What am I getting for my money?

You’re investing in an unparalleled educational experience that focuses on your child’s academic, emotional, and social development. Solid Rock Community School is the only school in the world offering a unique blend of holistic education, humane education, and a focus on sustainability and wellness.

Our innovative curriculum integrates traditional academics with values like kindness, inclusion, and environmental stewardship. Students engage in hands-on learning through our one-of-a-kind animal sanctuary and programs that teach humane, sustainable living practices.

We don’t just teach students—we empower them to grow into thoughtful, informed, and empathetic leaders. This holistic approach, combined with individualized attention and innovative programs, ensures your child receives an education that truly stands apart from the rest.

We understand that tuition is a significant investment, but we believe it’s one of the most important ones you can make. We would love to show you firsthand how our programs and community can make a difference for your child

What does the tuition actually pay for?

Your tuition directly supports everything that makes Solid Rock exceptional—teacher salaries, small class sizes for personalized attention, cutting-edge technology, unique extracurriculars, upkeep and safety of our campus and innovative programs. Every dollar you invest goes into creating the best possible learning environment for your child.

Are there additional costs beyond tuition (e.g., books, supplies, field trips)?

Yes, there may be additional costs for items such as consumables, school supplies, field trips, and/or extracurricular activities. We strive to keep these expenses reasonable and provide detailed information in advance so families can plan accordingly. Financial assistance may be available for those in need.

Is the tuition really worth it?

At Solid Rock Community School, we embrace the uniqueness of every student by providing a learning environment that adapts to diverse needs and strengths. Our teachers tailor lessons to include a variety of learning styles, ensuring that every child feels supported and engaged.

We use a multimodal approach to education, combining various teaching methods to address different ways students learn:

  • Visual Learners benefit from diagrams, charts, videos, and written instructions.
  • Auditory Learners thrive through discussions, lectures, and collaborative activities.
  • Kinesthetic/Experiential Learners engage with hands-on projects, experiments, and real-world applications.
  • Reading/Writing Learners excel with text-based materials and independent research opportunities.

Do you follow IEPs?

Many IEP accommodations are met naturally within our school environment due to our small class sizes, personalized learning approach, and inclusive practices. Accommodations that may be essential in a public school setting are often unnecessary in our unique program.

When additional support is needed, our administrative team collaborates with families to create a tailored plan specifically designed to meet the student's needs within our school framework, ensuring they have the resources to thrive academically and socially

Campus Safety and Environment

Campus Security: The safety and well-being of our students and staff are our top priorities. Our campus features secure access points, perimeter fencing, cameras, monitoring, safety drills, and vigilant supervision by trained staff, along with other confidential safety protocols.
