S.A.V.E. Veterinary and Humane Education Program

S.A.V.E.  (Sanctuary for Animals and Veterinary Education) is a multi-year Veterinary and Humane Education Program for high school students. This unique opportunity allows students to earn career certifications and gain hands-on experience in animal care and veterinary practices.

The S.A.V.E. program is currently held at our Support Center, located at 3374 Keystone Rd. in Tarpon Springs, until the new sanctuary campus is complete at our main campus location. Our well-appointed classroom and vet lab are equipped with the latest equipment and supplies relevant to the animal care and veterinary program. Our teaching staff includes experienced professionals, a vet tech, and a veterinarian, all of whom are knowledgeable and passionate about the subjects they teach.  Students of the S.A.V.E program will attend both campuses with school day transportation provided.  

The S.A.V.E. program is designed for students with a true passion and interest in animal-related careers and college opportunities. Participants will graduate with numerous  hours of clinical experience, multiple certifications, and college credits. Example classes and experiences include:

  • Animal Behavior
  • Animal Care
  • Animal Grooming
  • Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation
  • Animal Rights Law
  • Habitats (Natural & Bioactive)
  • Humane Education
  • Sustainable Food & Gardening
  • Vet Assisting & Tech
  • Veterinary Medicine
  • Wildlife Conservation

Students will also have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of animals, including:

  • Domesticated animals (dogs, cats)
  • Farm animals (pigs, cows, chickens)
  • Exotic animals (chinchillas, hedgehogs)
  • Reptiles (turtles, bearded dragons)
  • Primates (marmosets, lemurs)
  • Birds (doves, amazons, parrots)

Depending on their year of entry (9th-12th grade), students will have the opportunity to earn various hours of practicum and clinical experience and certifications, providing them with a competitive edge in the animal care and veterinary fields.
